Greenboro Fence Step III

Re-use and reduce?

Charles and Julie really wanted to keep the old lattice as it doesn’t appear to be available anymore. I was able to remove it almost intact but having moved the post location meant two of the four sections would require some finessing.

Reused lattice in place

Keeping with the reuse theme, I took apart the old sections with the hope of using the 1×6″ boards. Once again this went well until the last section where a number of the boards were badly rotten at the bottom. Hoping not to have to run to the store I looked through sections kept from the first part of the job last summer (four other sections that had completely blown down in the tornado). I was able to find just enough boards without having to use ones that were badly decomposed.

Starting to look like a fence.

On the last day, which just happened to be 31ºC, if finished up the fence boards, ripped a few boards for the remainders and now the sections are ready for the upper and lower trim boards. Here is the final product including the fence posts caps.

Final product (no, it’s not curved)

Best part of the project – enjoying a beer from Tooth and Nail with Julie in an air-conditioned home.

You did an amazing job and the best part was your visits😁 We now have a fence to admire for years to come and no fear of tornadoes!
