Warren

I know there’s no magic formula for a fulfilling life or longevity—or both, but Warren seems to have found something close to it.

Penny and I have spent more time with him this year already than many others. He’s changed over the sixteen years and seems to be more willing to share details of his life and feelings too.

I’ve always been intrigued by the tech that Warren has employed on the island.

  • Several years ago he had an antenna installed on the island then wired ethernet cable and repeaters from the antenna to the two cottages. This required conduit and junction boxes as well as power at the boxes. So now there is high speed Internet and Wi-Fi at both locations
  • All the lighting is controlled by relays with multiple switches located throughout the cottage.
  • He built a vernacular lift with auto shutoff to haul stuff up from his dock.
  • And last year he deployed a bunch of Alexa devices then wired a special switch to an Arduino mini computer to control existing relays (lights and outlets)! This involved C programming and wiring circuit boards.

He’s almost 95!

He told me he’s never been bored since retiring years ago. I can see why.

  1. Very cool! Sounds like a very interesting guy. Embarrassing that a 95 year-old is using tech stuff that I don’t come close to understanding!

Thoughts?
