Greenboro Fence Step II

In the previous entry we stopped with the fence posts set in concrete waiting for the concrete to set.

Now I’m ready to attach the horizontal 2x4s that will support the fence boards as well as the old lattice.

Next we cover the steel posts with treated wood. I want the post to be as close a possible in appearance and size to a 4×4 wood post. Each post will use two pieces of 5/4″ x 6″ x 8′ pressure treated boards.

I got very lucky here with efficient use of material: ripping each piece at 3½ inches left me with a remnant a bit less than two inches. Here’s the next step:

With the cutouts for the horizontal members the above assembly fits over the ‘male’ side of the PostMaster. No screws are visible on this face as the ‘remnants’ are screwed to the back of the face.

In the end, when the fence boards and lattice are in place, the steel posts will be almost entirely concealed.

Next step is to frame the top sections to accept the old lattice and then attach the fence boards and trim boards. The end is nigh.
