On to Calgary

Five days on the Island was so enjoyable. Each day saw Penny having a lesson with Jennifer while I either relaxed with a coffee or headed out to explore.

When we arrived at their farm, Keith and Jennifer invited us for dinner where Keith served up the best ribs I’ve ever had.

After Penny’s lesson the first morning we had to check out the Goats on the Roof market — touristy item checked — on our way to Qualicum for a bite to eat and a ride up the coast.

Port Alberni

On day two I decided to head to Port Alberni while Penny was having her lesson. Turned out to be a terrific ride’ over the summit to the sea. Saw a couple of seals in the harbour.

Great coffee and breakfast at the Wildflower
Steep climb on my way back
300 to 800 year old trees in the Cathedral forest

One day we meet a colleague of Penny’s (Alex) at the local brew pub for many laughs and yes, a few beers too.

Back to Jericho

It’s a bike ride back to the ferry in Nanaimo with an added blow out along the way to make it excitingly tight to make the departure time.

We meet Grace for breakfast before she and a classmate head to Grouse Mountain to do the climb that she did seventeen years ago.

Goodbye 😢

Now we’re leaving Grace for a while. It’s an emotional goodbye but both Penny and I are glad to see that Grace is already adjusting well.

  1. Like the breakfast shot! Can imagine it was hard leaving Grace but very exciting for her to be starting something new.
