I’m convinced that one needs the same amount of gear whether it’s a two day trip or a cross-country excursion. After parking at Betty’s park n bike, we headed out in search of the Waterfront trail. Speaking of Betty she made us play musical cars before leaving and she, at first blush, seems to be a bit on the gnarly side – we’ll discover another side of her during our stay the following night though.
A swim and lunch after about 10 kilometres was a great way to start the bike ride. Maddy enjoyed the sandy beach and seems to be fearless in the water.
Interesting beer selection Lunch and a swim
One would think the trail along the St. Lawrence would be flat or perhaps a gentle climb; we would discover otherwise. The trail was quite undulating to say the least. Add to that a headwind, the fact that Maddy’s trailer was like a parachute for Derek and we forced to stop with about three kilometers to go to work out some cramping muscles.
Arrived at our B&B in Lansdowne where we met Stéphan – or at least thought we did. With added communication we stored our bikes, were shown our rooms and found ourselves on the deck with refreshments waiting on what would be an amazing dinner.
It was an early night for all but not until after Madison showed us the finer art of chess playing.
Very cool that three generations get to do that together.
We’re looking forward to camping with the grandchildren too
